OK, so I already made a post on this topic in October. However, I just realised that there is much more to it than you think! You can even create a whole edible garden in your home! Let's start with why is this practice eco-friendly.
Plants take in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen in the daytime while conducting photosynthesis and do the exact opposite at night. Nevertheless, we greatly rely on plants for our survival as we breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This is the first reason that plants are eco-friendly.
Second, when you buy food from the supermarket, do take note that CO2 is being produced from transporting food from its source to the supermarket. So, just by reducing the amount of food you buy from the supermarket by 20% and replacing them with home-grown foods instead, you can cut down your carbon footprint by approximately 30.8kg (68 lbs)!
So, now you may say, "I don't have the greenest of fingers, how will I be able to make an edible garden?
Well,
practice.
I have planted a lot of plants in my balcony, but some of them failed. Two plants wilted due to heavy rainstorms, and some of my attempts to sow a seed failed. However, perseverance is the key, so I persevered and managed to rebuild the garden once more.
The easiest plants that I have planted are brinjals and chillies. Others take longer, so you have to be patient. I believe that you will be able to create an edible garden too!
Till next time, friends! Bye!
