Efficiency in your home!

OK, so now that you learnt how to be more eco-friendly outside, it is time you learnt how to be more eco-friendly inside the house! Today, I am going to share with you 5 ways on how to be more efficient, and more eco-friendly, in your home.

Number 1: Opt for LED light bulbs.

There are three types of light bulbs in the market today: incandescent bulbs (regular old fashioned bulbs that use a lot of energy and do not last long), compact fluorescent lightbulbs (those spiral lightbulbs that we perceive as eco-friendly), and light-emitting diode bulbs (LEDs).

LED bulbs use up a whopping 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs!

Number 2: Install low-flow showerheads, taps and toilets.

A low flow showerhead uses much less water than a traditional showerhead! If you do not have the money to buy this, do not worry. If you are living in Singapore, you're in luck. The Government is giving out free thimbles to put in your showerheads and taps to reduce the water flow!

Now, look at this picture.

Do you notice that there is a tap on top of the toilet bowl? Well, this shows that it is eco-friendly! This tap re-routs the water flowing from the pipe into the sink while moving the dirty water into the tank. So, you can wash your hands with the basin and use the water that you used to wash your hands for the next flush! Isn't it amazing?

Number 3: Unplug the powerhead from the socket!

You may not know this, but when you keep the powerhead plugged into the socket, even if it is turned off, it will still secretly use electricity, known as phantom energy! If you plug the powerhead out, no phantom energy will be used.

Number 4: Use a pail to catch cold water!

Do you use a heater while showering? If so, do you notice that it takes time for the water to heat up. Instead of letting this cold water flow into the drain, you can catch it with a pail and accumulate it for other purposes like washing the toilet etc.

Number 5: Solar energy!

If you own a landed property, do consider installing a solar panel and solar battery! This is environmentally friendly as the energy comes from the sun. If you do not own a landed property, do not fret. You can opt for a green plan from your electricity provider that gives you solar energy at certain times of the day.

I hope that these tips will be helpful to you. Till next time, bye!
